Munich
Munich pairs Bavarian city life with a long-established queer scene around the Glockenbach and Gärtnerplatz quarters — close enough for an easy city break from Switzerland.
The Glockenbach quarter just south of the old town is the most useful base for queer travellers. Bars, shops and meeting places cluster around Müllerstrasse and Gärtnerplatz; Munich's official tourism service describes the district as the centre of the city's gay scene and queer community. Long-standing addresses include Deutsche Eiche, with its restaurant, roof terrace and large men's sauna. Munich also rewards time beyond nightlife: Viktualienmarkt, the Isar, the English Garden and Maxvorstadt's museums all fit easily into a weekend based in the scene district. Munich Pride is one of the established CSD celebrations in the German-speaking world; use the official CSD website for current dates and programme.
