GWHF – Girls Wanna Have Fun is a transgender group in Switzerland centred on sharing experiences, mutual support and public monthly meetings for LGBTQI* people. Relatives, friends and acquaintances are also welcome. The group charges no membership fees.[1]

Overview

Two transgender people founded GWHF in 1995 to exchange experiences and take part in outings together in public. The group identifies as part of the LGBTQI* community and brings people together through a shared interest in transgender experiences and issues.[1]

Its participants today include active and interested people who identify only partly, or not at all, with traditional gender roles. The invitation also extends to relatives, friends and acquaintances, explicitly including people from participants’ personal lives alongside those with their own relevant experiences.[1]

Activities

Public meetings take place monthly and welcome LGBTQI* people. Mutual support among people with shared interests is one of the group’s stated principles. Personal exchange sits alongside its founding idea of sharing experiences and going on outings together in public.[1]

People registered as active participants attend meetings with varying regularity, and their ideas are welcome. They may receive invitations to workshops or requests to help. A core team handles organisation, communication and networking, as well as ideas and concerns raised by active participants.[1]

Participation

LGBTQI* people can attend the monthly meetings alone or with someone else. The group asks for respectful behaviour and specifies that attendees should not be seeking sexual contacts at the meetings. This condition forms an explicit part of its invitation to the public gatherings.[1]

There are no membership fees, and all work for GWHF is voluntary. Costs that arise are covered as needed through voluntary contributions and donations. People wishing to contribute can register as active participants. According to the website, that registration creates no statutory or association-law rights or obligations.[1]

Contact

The website brings together contact, registration and newsletter options. It distinguishes registration as an active participant, including the newsletter, from a newsletter-only subscription. Existing participants can also use a profile-update function, while a separate newsletter unsubscribe option allows them to stop receiving the newsletter.[1]

A full withdrawal option requests deletion of all data, active-participant registration and the newsletter subscription. Anyone wishing to have a photograph removed from the gallery or elsewhere on the website is directed to contact GWHF about its removal.[1]

Frequently asked questions

Can relatives or acquaintances come along?

Yes. Relatives, friends and acquaintances are welcome. The monthly meetings explicitly admit LGBTQI* people with or without a companion, subject to respectful behaviour and the condition that attendees are not seeking sexual contacts.[1]

Are registration details shared with other active participants?

The website states that active participants’ registration details are not passed to third parties or shared internally with other active participants. This statement specifically concerns the information supplied for active-participant registration.[1]

Is a newsletter-only subscription possible?

Yes. The form offers a newsletter-only option separately from active-participant registration with the newsletter included. Someone who only wants to receive the newsletter can select that option without registering for active involvement.[1]
