Address: Gazi-Faliro cycleway, 118 52 Athens
What it is
Around Voutadon Street, bars and clubs line up in converted industrial buildings, including long-standing gay venues such as Sodade2 and Shamone. The Technopolis grounds hold the Industrial Gas Museum and host concerts, festivals and exhibitions year-round. Quiet by day, Gazi turns into one of the liveliest nightlife hubs in the city after dark.
History
The district owes its name to the gasworks founded in 1857, which operated until the mid-1980s. After the site was converted into the Technopolis cultural centre, Gazi was reborn from the late 1990s on. It grew into Athens' main nightlife and LGBTQ district.
