Checkpoint Genève provides health services for LGBTIQ+ people, including HIV and STI testing, PrEP support, medical consultations and psychosocial care. The centre is at Rue de Lausanne 54 and also offers anonymous consultations.[1][2][5]
Overview
Checkpoint Genève serves LGBTIQ+ people with sexual health and general health services. Its work includes general medicine, vaccinations, mental health and questions about substance use. HIV and other sexually transmitted infections form part of this broader medical and psychological provision, alongside concerns beyond sexual health.[1]
Services
Testing covers HIV, syphilis, gonorrhoea and chlamydia; the price list specifically includes a rapid HIV test. The centre also provides treatment for other STIs. Its service list includes PEP, emergency treatment against HIV, HIV treatment, hepatitis A and B vaccination, and general medicine. Published packages combine several of these tests with a basic consultation.[4][12][3]
PrEP services for HIV prevention include information sessions, consultations to start PrEP and ongoing medical follow-up. Checkpoint Genève participates in SwissPrEPared. That project combines a care programme with a research study and serves people at high risk of acquiring HIV, whether or not they take PrEP.[2]
Psychosocial provision addresses coming out, substance use, chemsex and living with HIV. Male and trans sex work is also listed as a specific area of the centre's work. A dedicated contact is available for enquiries about chemsex consultations and discussion groups.[3][5]
The website describes NOON as a consultation for lesbian women, trans men and other people assigned female at birth. Its published offer includes testing and treatment relating to STIs, HIV and HPV, breast cancer screening, and vaccination against hepatitis A, hepatitis B and HPV. The website also lists sexual health advice on prevention and reducing risks. The page also carries a notice that a service is planned for 2026, without clearly specifying its scope. Current availability of NOON and the listed services is therefore unconfirmed.[3]
Costs
Compulsory basic health insurance may reimburse consultations, tests, laboratory analyses, vaccinations and treatments, subject to the deductible and co-payment. Insurance details are required, and the centre asks patients to bring their insurance card. Consultations are billed in five-minute units. The price list gives approximately CHF 70 for a 20-minute consultation as an example.[4]
For payment outside insurance, the published amounts are price ranges in Swiss francs. From age 26, a basic consultation with a rapid HIV test costs CHF 60–105; with gonorrhoea and chlamydia tests, CHF 80–125; and with HIV, syphilis, gonorrhoea and chlamydia tests, CHF 105–145. A basic consultation alone, lasting approximately 20 minutes, costs CHF 50–90.[4]
For people aged 25 or under and for social tariffs, the corresponding ranges are CHF 40–105 with a rapid HIV test, CHF 60–125 with gonorrhoea and chlamydia tests, and CHF 85–145 for all four infections. A basic consultation alone costs CHF 30–90. These packages are examples of the offer. Payment is made at the centre after the consultation, by cash or card.[4]
For PrEP consultations, Checkpoint Genève identifies 1 July 2024 as the date from which health insurance may cover consultations through its participation in SwissPrEPared.[2]
Visiting
Appointments are arranged by calling 022 906 40 30 during opening hours. Requests for an anonymous consultation should be raised at the first contact, after which the team works with the person to find the solution that best suits their situation. An insurance card is required for possible insurance reimbursement.[5][1][4]
Confidential or anonymous consultations cover information, advice, testing, treatment and follow-up. Both a nurse and a doctor are present throughout the consultation sessions.[5]
