ILGA Rainbow Map 2026: Switzerland ranks 20th — stagnation since 2023

ILGA-Europe has released the Rainbow Map 2026, its annual ranking of 49 European countries by the strength of their LGBTIQ+ rights and legal protections. Switzerland retains an overall score of 50% and a 20th-place ranking, but formally drops two positions because Montenegro and Croatia have advanced in the overall evaluation.
This stagnation since 2023 reflects a lack of legislative progress, according to ILGA-Europe. Key gaps remain: incomplete equality for trans and intersex people, no federal ban on conversion therapy, and deficits in anti-discrimination protection at work and in education. Malta leads with 94%; Switzerland sits in a broad mid-field.
Queer organisations such as Pink Cross, LOS and HAZ regularly use these results as leverage in parliamentary initiatives. The full Switzerland country profile is available at rainbowmap.ilga-europe.org.
