Pink Cross is Switzerland’s national umbrella organisation for gay and bisexual men. It represents their interests across all four language regions and works towards recognition and equal rights.[6]

Overview

Pink Cross represents gay and bisexual men in dealings with politicians, public administration and the wider public. Its audience includes people who identify with the male gender, alongside people of other genders who identify with the organisation’s concerns. Its aims extend to recognition and equal rights for gay, bisexual and other queer ways of life, both in Switzerland and internationally.[6]

Activities

The organisation combines political advocacy and media work with support for the LGBTIQ community. It challenges discrimination, prejudice and violence connected with sexual orientation, gender identity and HIV status. Schools and businesses are another focus: Pink Cross supports their efforts to create more inclusive environments.[6][1]

Through Fonds Respect, Pink Cross provides financial support for cultural, scientific and civil society projects with a queer connection. Supporting projects in these fields forms part of the organisation’s community work.[5]

PinkRail is a meeting group run jointly by LOS and Pink Cross. It brings together interested current and retired public transport employees and railway enthusiasts from the LGBTIQ community.[5]

Taking part

Membership applications can be made through the online form. Applicants can also register an interest in volunteering and request contact from the organisation. New members can pay their contribution using TWINT, a credit card or a payment slip.[2][7]

Members have a say at the annual general meeting. Membership also includes PinkMail, published three or four times a year, and information plus a short initial consultation when needed on personal LGBTIQ-specific legal questions. PinkMail is written in German and French; communication with members is also limited to these two languages.[7]

Contact

The office lists its address as Monbijoustrasse 73, PO Box, 3001 Bern, and its telephone number as +41 31 372 33 00. Its published office opening hours are Monday to Friday, 09:30–12:30.[6]

For personal questions about queer life, Pink Cross directs people to the LGBTIQ Helpline. The helpline offers peer support and receives reports of violence targeting LGBTIQ people. Suggested topics include coming out, connecting with other bisexual men, rainbow families and gay dating in rural areas.[8][3]

Frequently asked questions

What membership fees are listed?

The membership page lists CHF 150 for standard membership, CHF 75 for reduced membership, CHF 40 for young members up to age 25 and CHF 50 for allies. Both standard and reduced memberships cost CHF 50 in the first year.[10]

How do renewal and cancellation work?

New memberships cover the current calendar year and renew automatically unless cancelled. Membership can end at year-end; written cancellation by email or post must arrive three months beforehand. Pink Cross says it will seek a solution if that deadline has been missed.[7]

Does Pink Cross handle individual asylum cases?

Pink Cross does not provide personal consultation or financial assistance for individual asylum cases. Its information page points to specialist organisations, including Queeramnesty, which supports LGBT asylum seekers in Switzerland.[3]
