On Place Royale, this museum holds the world's largest collection of Surrealist René Magritte, with around 230 works.

On the Place Royale in the Royal Quarter on the Mont des Arts, housed in the neoclassical Hôtel du Lotto and part of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium.

What it is

Spread over several floors, it displays around 200 works - paintings, gouaches, drawings and objects - alongside posters, photographs and films from Magritte's advertising and cinema output. A must for anyone drawn to surrealism and Magritte's world of pipes, clouds and bowler hats.

History

Opened in 2009, the museum is dedicated to the Belgian surrealist René Magritte (1898-1967). Drawn from the holdings of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts, it brings together the world's largest collection of his work.
