What it is
The Rue du Marché au Charbon is the main gay street, densely lined with bars, cafés and clubs that come alive from early evening. The area stays open and welcoming far beyond Pride and is the first port of call for queer nightlife in Brussels.
History
Named after the former pilgrims' chapel, the district has developed since the 1990s into Brussels' gay quarter. In 2001 the RainbowHouse, the city's LGBTQI+ community centre, opened here at Rue du Marché au Charbon 42.
