Hungary· Budapest, Hungary· Late June / early July

Hungary's defiant flagship Pride and Central Europe's most politically charged march, run by the Rainbow Mission Foundation.

About the event

Held in Budapest every year since 1997 and organised by the Rainbow Mission Foundation (Szivárvány Misszió Alapítvány), Budapest Pride is far more than a march down the grand Andrássy Avenue. It is the centrepiece of a week-long festival of films, talks, exhibitions and parties, and it has become the symbolic frontline of LGBTIQ rights in Central Europe.

Its meaning sharpened dramatically in 2025, when the Hungarian government moved to ban the march. The community marched anyway, and what was once a gathering of a few thousand turned into one of the largest demonstrations in recent Hungarian history, with people arriving from dozens of countries to stand with Budapest. That blend of celebration and resistance gives this Pride a weight few others carry.

For a visitor it is two things at once: a warm, colourful queer street party in one of Europe's most beautiful capitals, and a genuine act of solidarity. Going is itself a statement, and the city's bathhouses, ruin bars and riverside make for a memorable weekend around the march.
