Australia's biggest LGBTQIA+ celebration: weeks of festival capped by a legendary night parade down Oxford Street.

About the event

Born in 1978 as a protest march that ended in police arrests, Sydney Mardi Gras has grown into the largest queer celebration in the Southern Hemisphere. Held during the Australian summer, it spans several weeks of theatre, art, parties and community events across the city before building to its centrepiece.

That centrepiece is the night parade along Oxford Street in Darlinghurst, the historic gay heart of Sydney, where thousands of marchers and hundreds of floats move through cheering crowds after dark. Protest and party sit side by side: glitter and feathers, but also Dykes on Bikes leading the way and First Nations and activist contingents keeping the political roots alive.

Beyond the parade, the festival fills bars, beaches and warehouses with dance parties and pool events, making Sydney one of the world's great Pride destinations during the long days of late summer.
