What it is
The broad, easily accessible beach of golden-red sand is among Malta's most popular and best-equipped, with hotels, restaurants and watersports. It is a lively hub especially in summer and is known for its beautiful sunsets.
History
The area was long sparsely settled; in the 17th century the Knights built the nearby Għajn Tuffieħa Tower on the cliffs for coastal defence. During British rule the military used the site, which was then called "Military Bay", and from the mid-20th century it developed into a seaside resort.
