Beach
Pembroke
in Malta, Malta
A rocky stretch north of St Julian's that is Malta's long-standing gay and nudist hangout; bring water shoes for the rocks.
Where it is
Pembroke's rocky shore lies on the northeast coast, north of St Julian's, around the area of Madliena Tower.
Address: Pembroke
What it is
This is not a sandy beach but flat rock with entry points into clear water, best visited with a thick mat and water shoes. The cove is regarded as the island's most popular gay and nudist spot; Malta has no official nudist beaches, however, so discretion is advisable.
History
Pembroke grew up as a British garrison town of barracks and training grounds, traces of which still mark the surroundings. Its undeveloped stretch of coast has, over the years, informally become Malta's main gathering spot for the LGBTQ community.
