The park stretches across the Porta Venezia district, between Corso Venezia, Via Palestro and the Bastioni di Porta Venezia.
Address: Municipio 1, Milan
What it is
With broad lawns, old trees and winding paths, the park is a green oasis in the dense urban fabric. Inside it stand the Natural History Museum and the Planetarium, making it a favourite spot for families and for the nearby Porta Venezia LGBT district.
History
It is Milan's oldest public park: in 1780 the viceroy commissioned architect Giuseppe Piermarini to design it, with works completed between 1782 and 1786. Piermarini's layout was inspired by French formal gardens; in 2002 the park was renamed after journalist Indro Montanelli.
