Oasi Naturista di Capocotta

in Rome, Italy

The officially designated nudist stretch within the same nature reserve is mixed and naturist, adjoining the gay Il Buco section.

Where it is

The Oasi Naturista di Capocotta lies within the Roman coast nature reserve at Capocotta, on the Litoranea road between Ostia and Torvaianica, about 30 km southwest of Rome.

Address: Municipio Roma X, Rome

What it is

The equipped section offers sunbeds, umbrellas, toilets and a bar/restaurant amid protected dunes and Mediterranean scrub. The beach is recognised by the international naturist movement and is also a popular meeting point for Rome's LGBT community, with a distinctly gay-friendly character.

History

On the initiative of naturist associations and the City of Rome, Italy's first officially designated naturist beach was established here in 2000. The move followed a Court of Cassation ruling that recognised the practice of naturism as lawful in customary places. Since then the Oasi has been the first free beach in Italy where naturism is legally protected.
