Checkpoint Vaud is PROFA’s Lausanne health service for men who have sex with men, trans and non-binary people and their partners. Its work combines sexual health, mental health and psychosocial support.[3][1]

Overview

Consultations bring together medical and nursing care, psychology, psychiatry and psychosocial support. Alongside sexual health, the service addresses anxiety, stress, depression and substance use. Administrative and social support is also available, including around coming out, sexual orientation and gender identity.[1]

Services

Testing covers HIV, chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhoea and hepatitis A, B and C. Vaccinations listed for this centre cover HPV, hepatitis A and B, and mpox. Its medical services include STI treatment, HIV therapy, PrEP provision and monitoring, and PEP provision.[2]

The chemsex consultation offers individual support, a review of substance use and tools focused on possible changes. A monthly discussion group, Parlons chemsex, provides space to share experiences. The Pôle Trans offers information and orientation for questions about gender identity or transition.[1]

Costs and insurance

The published screening tariff has two age bands. A rapid HIV test, including a 30-minute consultation, costs CHF 12 for people under 25 and CHF 60 from age 25. The Big 5 package costs CHF 60 and CHF 140 respectively; it includes a one-hour consultation and tests for HIV, syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia and hepatitis C.[1]

Payment is made after the consultation, on site, in cash or by card. Adjusted fees can be discussed according to circumstances. Further analyses, treatment or vaccination may add costs. Basic insurance may reimburse consultations, laboratory tests, vaccines and treatments, subject to the deductible and co-payment; insured-person details are required for reimbursement, and the centre asks visitors to bring an insurance card.[1]

PrEP insurance cover began on 1 July 2024, with patient cost-sharing still payable. Eligibility follows three categories. The first covers cis and trans men and trans women who have sex with men and meet at least one criterion: having or wanting condomless anal sex; an STI diagnosis or PEP treatment within the previous 12 months; or substance use during sex.[7]

The second covers people having condomless sex with cis or trans men or trans women who have sex with men, or with sex workers from countries with high HIV prevalence in the general population. The third covers people having condomless sex with partners living with HIV whose viral load is not below the detection threshold.[7]

PrEP requires a medical prescription and regular follow-up. Its costs include medication, medical services and laboratory analyses. PROFA estimates CHF 1,200–1,500 annually outside basic insurance for daily use; adapted tariffs can be discussed in consultation.[7]

From 1 to 30 November 2026, Checkpoint participates in free HIV and syphilis screening for men and trans people who have sex with men. People taking HIV PrEP are excluded from this campaign offer.[1]

Arranging a visit

The centre’s own website specifies appointment-only consultations. OneDoc booking is offered for a first screening at Checkpoint and for quarterly reviews of existing Checkpoint PrEP follow-up. Other appointment requests go through the contact form.[1]

The form requires a name, telephone number, email address and message. It asks whether a reply is wanted and allows a preference for email or telephone. Acceptance of the form’s terms is required before sending.[6]
