20 years of Checkpoint Zürich: anniversary celebration with workshops, apéro and party on 21 November at the Kraftwerk
Zurich’s queer health centre Checkpoint turns 20: programme, acts, tickets and why the occasion matters beyond the party calendar.
What is happening Checkpoint Zürich turns 20 and is celebrating on Saturday 21 November 2026 at the Kraftwerk, Selnaustrasse 25, near Selnau station. gay.ch describes the event as the 20th birthday of the queer health centre in Zurich. On Eventfrog, where Checkpoint itself is the organiser, it is listed as «Jubiläumsfest – 20 Jahre Checkpoint Zürich & Frühstück». Neither page gives the year Checkpoint was founded, so we do not state one.
The programme According to Eventfrog the day starts at 14:00 with workshops and inputs, followed at 18:00 by a networking apéro. From 22:00 there is a party with queer DJs and performances. gay.ch names the acts: Ultrakrissy opens, Klamydia von Karma performs, Obsidian takes over and Meraki closes. The evening is hosted by Checkpoint Zürich and Frühstück together with the labels TEA, Explicit, Pit, Heldenbar, DudesChat, Cranberry «and several more». The zuri.net listing also mentions a symposium for general practitioners; no other source we read says so, so treat it as unconfirmed. The full programme and the sign-up for the workshops are on cpzh.ch/fest.
Tickets and times gay.ch lists CHF 35 at the door and presale from CHF 20 online. Eventfrog shows the whole event from Saturday 09:00 to Sunday 08:00; that is the ticket window, not the programme, and the 18:00 in gay.ch’s headline is the start of the apéro. Plan around the three blocks above. Eventfrog states that all ticket revenue goes to Checkpoint to support its work for the community.
What Checkpoint does Aids-Hilfe Schweiz describes Checkpoint as the health centre by and for the LGBTQ community, offering preventive, psychosocial and medical services with a focus on sexual health. That is why the anniversary matters beyond Zurich’s party calendar: it marks an institution that combines prevention, counselling and medical care under one roof.
The wider HIV-prevention context According to its history page, Aids-Hilfe Schweiz was founded on 2 June 1985 «under dramatic circumstances» and celebrated its own 40th anniversary on 13 June 2025 at the Swiss National Museum in Zurich. The same page recalls a solidarity march on World AIDS Day 1990 in Zurich and repeats the federal goal that no new HIV infection should occur in Switzerland by 2030, which it calls ambitious. Its homepage currently highlights a media release saying that free HIV self-tests reach people who have rarely been tested; we have not read the study behind it.
Around the date The weekend is crowded. Pit is listed at Fabrik du Plaisir on 20 November by Eventfrog and kweer.io, while gay.ch says 21 November, so check before you go. HRDR #42 takes place at Komplex Klub on 21 November. Later, Querelle II at Folklor in Lausanne on 28 November is held three days before World AIDS Day in solidarity with people living with HIV, according to 360.ch. All dates are in our events agenda.
