Zurich inaugurates queer memorial – history finally made visible

On 20 August 2026, a queer memorial was officially inaugurated in Zurich. The new commemorative site honours the history of the LGBTIQ+ community in the city and remembers those who experienced exclusion, discrimination, and violence because of their identity.
The inauguration ceremony brought together representatives from politics, culture, and the community. For many in attendance, it was a historic moment: Zurich's queer heritage now has a permanent, public place in the urban landscape – visible to all.
The memorial is designed to serve as a meeting place and space for remembrance – for anyone who wants to learn more about Zurich's queer history or pay their respects. Further information on location and opening hours is available through the City of Zurich.
