Gay Zurich 2026: the guide to gay bars, clubs, sauna and community
Where queer Zurich goes out, unwinds, gets tested and meets people: bars in the Niederdorf, party series in Kreis 4 and 5, the Renos Relax sauna, Checkpoint Zürich, the Regenbogenhaus and the dates until Christmas. Every detail checked on 7 October 2026 with the venue, the organiser, its ticket listing or the gay.ch party listings.
Two neighbourhoods, short distances
Zurich has no self-contained gay village with rainbow flags on every corner. Gay and queer Zurich is spread across two poles that sit close enough together for you to enjoy both in a single evening.
The first pole is the Niederdorf, the part of the Old Town on the right bank of the Limmat. On Spitalgasse, the Heaven club (number 5) and Kweer Bar (number 14) are practically next door to each other, and a few steps further on you will find Cranberry on Metzgergasse, Petra's Tip Top Bar on Seilergraben and the Paragonya sauna on Mühlegasse. This is where most nights begin: a drink first, then dancing, all on foot.
The second pole lies west of the main station, in Kreis 4 and 5. Here you will find the Renos Relax sauna on Brauerstrasse, the Regenbogenhaus on Zollstrasse, Checkpoint Zürich on Limmatstrasse and Provitreff on Sihlquai, home to the Heldenbar every Wednesday. Many of the big party series also take over clubs in this part of town: on Geroldstrasse, Schiffbaustrasse and Badenerstrasse.
For this guide, on 7 October 2026 we checked every address, every set of opening hours and every date on the official website of the venue or organiser, in their ticket listing or in the gay.ch party listings. Anything we could not confirm there has been left out. Programmes still change quickly, so take a quick look at our listings or the venue's own site before you head out.
Gay bars in Zurich: where the night begins
Cranberry at Metzgergasse 3 is the scene's constant. The bar has been open since 1997 and describes itself as a queer cocktail bar; it spreads over two floors, with the Campari Room upstairs, which can also be hired for private parties. It opens from Sunday to Thursday from 5pm to 12.30am, and on Friday and Saturday until 2am. If you fancy an after-work drink and want to meet people from the community, this is the place.
A few minutes away, at Spitalgasse 14, is Kweer Bar. It carries on the legacy of the historic Barfüsser, which was a queer meeting place in the city for decades. On 9 October 2026 the venue celebrated twice over: four years of Kweer and 70 years of the Barfüsser as a queer safe space. During the day the ViCAFE is open (Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, weekends 9am to 5pm), and in the evening the bar: Tuesday and Wednesday 5pm to 11.30pm, Thursday until midnight, Friday and Saturday until 2am. The programme revolves around karaoke, usually on Thursdays, plus drag bingo and pub quizzes. On 15 October, Vio La Cornuta hosts Kweeraoke.
Petra's Tip Top Bar at Seilergraben 13 is a different world: popular with Schlager fans, with drag from host Petra. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 6.30pm and closed on Sunday and Monday. The easiest way there is tram 3 or bus 31 to the Neumarkt stop.
Our tip for a first evening: start at Cranberry, drop into Kweer for a song, then head along Spitalgasse to Heaven. Three stops, all within walking distance.
Clubs and party series that keep coming back
The queer club with its own permanent home in the heart of the Old Town is Heaven at Spitalgasse 5. On Fridays and Saturdays, club nights usually run from 10.45pm to 5am, and there are early evenings of drag, comedy and karaoke too. The line-up changes every weekend, from 90s nights to fetish nights.
According to its own description, the longest-running regular queer event in Zurich is the Heldenbar: every Wednesday from 8pm at Provitreff, Sihlquai 240, with free entry, run as a non-profit solidarity bar. On the first Wednesday of the month there is a drag show hosted by Milky Diamond. The Heldenbar has been going since 2006, so this year marks twenty years. You can pay in cash, by card or with TWINT.
Party series without a club of their own also shape the weekend. Konliki explicitly welcomes lesbians, gays and everyone who is different from the rest; the latest edition took place on 2 October at Helsinki Klub, Geroldstrasse 35, for 15 francs on the door. As of 7 October, no next date had been announced. Kiki appears as a takeover in changing clubs, for example at Hive, Geroldstrasse 5, on 23 October, with two dance floors (28 francs). Boyahkasha is one of the big pop nights: on 24 October from 11pm it comes to Plaza at Badenerstrasse 109, with Tayce from "RuPaul's Drag Race UK"; 18 and over, 35 francs on the door, advance tickets from 20 francs.
The collective behind kweer.io runs four series: the drag ball KWEER BALL, the sex-positive dance night EXPLICIT, the day dance TEA, modelled on the Fire Island tea dances, and the sweaty PIT. If you prefer something calmer, make a note of Hueregeile Sunntig: once a month on a Sunday afternoon at Roxy Musikbar, Zinistrasse 7, with music, drinks and gossip, organised by the team known from Männerzone.
Dates until Christmas
Autumn in Zurich is busy. Here are the evenings we have confirmed for the weeks after 15 October; all of them are also in our listings.
On Friday 16 October, Heaven opens its Open Drag Stage for new talent from 7pm to 10pm, followed from 10.45pm by the club night Hot Mess. On Saturday 17 October, it hosts Boom Boom 90s.
Monday 19 October belongs to Pink Monday at the Zürcher Oktoberfest on the Bauschänzli, now in its 27th edition, from 5pm. Important: according to the organisers the evening is sold out, and there are no tickets on the door for special nights like this one. The Oktoberfest itself runs from 8 October to 7 November.
On Friday 23 October you have a choice: at Heaven, the Kink Social starts at 8pm, an evening of fetish with a dress code that turns into the club night The Birdcage at 11pm. At the same time, Kiki gets going at Hive at 11pm. On Saturday 24 October, Boyahkasha follows at Plaza.
The scene celebrates Halloween on Saturday 31 October at KWEER BALL at Labor 5, Schiffbaustrasse 3, from 10pm to 6am, with a costume contest and a lip-sync battle; the best look wins 150 francs and a trophy.
On Saturday 21 November, Checkpoint Zürich marks its 20th anniversary with a celebration. And at the end of the year, on Saturday 19 December, the Queer Christmas Cruise sets sail: the MS Panta Rhei leaves Bürkliplatz at 8pm and returns at 11pm. On board there is a drag host, DJs, karaoke and fondue; the ticket costs 44 francs and includes entry to Heaven and Klaus afterwards. The cruise is organised by Behave, Boyahkasha, Heaven, Klaus and the Zürichsee-Schifffahrtsgesellschaft, the lake's boat company.
Gay sauna Zurich (18+): Renos Relax and Paragonya
This section is for adults. The first address is Renos Relax at Brauerstrasse 16 in Kreis 4, a gay and mixed sauna in one. It opens from Monday to Wednesday from noon to 10pm, on Thursday until midnight, on Friday and Saturday until 4am, and on Sunday and public holidays from noon to 10pm. At weekends there is the night sauna from 11pm, which the venue itself calls its insider tip.
Facilities include saunas and a steam room, a bar, relaxation and TV rooms, cabins, BDSM rooms, a smokers' lounge and massages. Standard entry costs 45 francs. If you arrive from Sunday to Thursday after 8pm, you pay 35 francs; the same price applies to guests up to 30, students with ID included. Three towels are included in the entry fee, and if you step out in between, you can come back in for 10 francs.
Worth knowing when you plan: every Tuesday and Friday Renos is a mixed sauna and is open to all genders. If you are looking for a men-only evening, pick one of the other days.
Bring ID, as saunas may ask for it at the door. If it is your first visit, our gay sauna etiquette guide will help: it explains how things work, hygiene and how consent works there, without taboos and without judgement.
The second address is right in the Niederdorf: Paragonya Wellness Club for men at Mühlegasse 11, on the first floor with lift access. By its own account it is Zurich's largest gay sauna, with more than 600 square metres, a bio sauna, steam room, whirlpool, cruising area and bar. Standard entry costs 44 francs; under 26, the rule is "your age is your entry price". Its website gives two different sets of opening hours (11.30am to 7pm or 9pm, and daily 11.30am to 11pm), so check before you go. Other saunas that appear on travel portals are not included: on the day we checked, we could not find a working official website for any of them.
Health: Checkpoint Zürich, testing and PrEP
Checkpoint Zürich at Limmatstrasse 25 is one of the largest centres in Switzerland for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and it works for queer people and everyone who feels at home there. Its services range from testing, medical treatment, PrEP and PEP to psychotherapy and support for trans and non-binary people. Checkpoint has been at Limmatstrasse since 2023, and in 2026 it celebrates twenty years.
It is open seven days a week: Monday and Thursday from noon to 8pm, Tuesday and Friday from 9am to 5pm, Wednesday from 2pm to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday from 2pm to 6pm. For tests, book an appointment online to avoid waiting. The team can only be reached by phone to a limited extent; you can request a callback through the website.
One tip that pays off: in November only, HIV and syphilis tests at Checkpoint are free, and tests for chlamydia and gonorrhoea cost 60 francs. The offer applies to men and trans people who have sex with men.
After a possible HIV exposure, you should not wait for an appointment. Checkpoint sees HIV emergencies without an appointment at any time during opening hours and stresses that PEP should start as early as possible: according to Checkpoint, the chances of success already fall after six hours, and after 48 hours it no longer works. These lines are not a substitute for advice; whether and how PEP or PrEP suits you is something to clarify with a health professional.
On PrEP: since 1 July 2024, basic health insurance has covered the cost of HIV PrEP when it is provided by a practitioner affiliated with the SwissPrEPared programme. According to SwissPrEPared, this arrangement is being evaluated until December 2026. Besides Checkpoint, there are other SwissPrEPared centres in Zurich, which you will find in our health directory; full details on costs and the process are in our PrEP guide.
Community, history and sport
If you live in Zurich or are staying a while, you will find the community during the day too. The Regenbogenhaus at Zollstrasse 117 is the home of queer groups and associations; the entrance is on the first floor via the Gleisterrasse. It opens on Wednesday and Friday from 3pm to 7pm and on the second Saturday of the month from 11am to 3pm, with a library and a code of conduct for all visitors.
The Regenbogenhaus is also the base of HAZ – Queer Zürich, the association that campaigns in the canton for the rights of lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer people. HAZ offers counselling, publishes a magazine and organises meet-ups; its office is staffed on Monday afternoons and on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
For younger people there is the Milchbar run by Milchjugend: once a month, on the first or second Thursday from 6pm to 11pm, at the Regenbogenhaus, aimed at queers up to around 30. If sport is your thing, try Rainbow Sport Zürich, an LGBTIQA+ club with over 400 members and a range of sports from football and volleyball to badminton and swimming, yoga and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The club has existed for almost 35 years.
Zurich also has a place where history becomes visible. On 20 August 2026, Switzerland's first Queer Memorial was unveiled at Sihlfeld cemetery, by entrance D on Albisriederstrasse. The memorial was designed by Judith Schröter and Regine Brandt together with members of the community; the project is backed by HAZ, the HIV/AIDS pastoral care service of the Catholic Church in the canton of Zurich, and queerAltern Zürich. It remembers people who lost their lives because of anti-queer discrimination, violence or exclusion, and honours those who have stood up for queer rights. It complements the rainbow burial ground that already exists at Sihlfeld.
Practical tips: night transport, safety and Pride 2027
After midnight you do not have to wait for a taxi in Zurich. The ZVV night network runs on Friday-to-Saturday and Saturday-to-Sunday nights and on public holidays, from about 1am into the early hours. A normal valid ticket is enough; there is no longer a night supplement. You can recognise the night lines by the N in front of the number.
Zurich is considered an open city, yet harassment still happens. For such cases, the city has run the reporting tool "Zürich schaut hin" since 2021, where people affected and witnesses can report sexual, sexist, homophobic and transphobic harassment. According to the city, an average of one and a half reports come in each day; at the start of 2026 the city decided to keep the project going permanently. If you need support, the LGBTIQ Helpline is free on 0800 133 133 from Monday to Friday between 7pm and 9pm, and also by chat; you can report a hate crime at stophate.ch. In an emergency involving violence, call the police on 117 straight away.
And for planning next summer: in 2026, Zurich Pride took place on 20 June as a demonstration only, without a festival. In 2027 the festival returns, on 11 and 12 June at the Kasernenareal and the Zeughaushof, with the march on the Saturday. If it is your first Pride, our Pride guide has everything you should know beforehand.
Finally, a piece of advice that counts for more in Zurich than elsewhere: many parties sell tickets more cheaply in advance, and on big nights they go quickly. If you are set on a particular night out, buy your ticket early.
