MAS (Museum aan de Stroom)

in Antwerp, Belgium

A striking red-stone museum in the old docklands telling Antwerp's maritime and world-trade story, with a free panoramic rooftop terrace.

Where it is

The MAS stands in the up-and-coming Eilandje docklands district, north of the old town, right beside the historic harbour basins on the waterfront.

Address: 1,3,5 Hanzestedenplaats, 2000 Antwerp

What it is

Its collections trace Antwerp's connections to the world through the port, trade, migration and city history. The highlight is the free panoramic rooftop on the tenth floor, offering a 360-degree view over the city, the port and the Scheldt.

History

The Museum aan de Stroom opened in May 2011 and is the largest museum in Antwerp. Its striking tower of red sandstone and undulating glass, designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects, brings together the collections of several former city museums under one roof.
