What it is
Es Cavallet is less a residential district than a protected natural setting of dunes, pines and sandy beach with only a few beach venues. Its hub for the gay crowd is the area around the Chiringay beach club at the southern end, known for its relaxed, open atmosphere. It is the place to go for Ibiza's queer beach life.
History
The area around Es Cavallet has been inseparable from Ibiza's queer history since the beach was designated for nudism in 1978. Its name comes from a horse (cavallet) that once drove the water wheel used to flood the nearby salt pans. Over the decades the southern end became the island's most internationally known gay meeting point.
