What it is
Vauxhall is regarded as one of London's key gay nightlife districts, known for high-energy club nights that often run all weekend. Alongside the legendary Royal Vauxhall Tavern, with its drag and cabaret, the area lines up bars and clubs that draw a largely male crowd.
History
The area was once part of the famous Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens and is home to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern (RVT), London's oldest surviving gay venue, which became a hub after the Second World War. In 2015 the RVT became the first building in the UK to be listed specifically for its importance to LGBTQ history.
