Mykonos Town (Chora) / Little Venice

in Mykonos, Greece

The hub of gay bars, with sunsets in Little Venice.

Where it is

Chora is the capital of Mykonos on the island's west coast, by the harbour; the Little Venice (Alefkandra) quarter sits along its seafront.

Address: Mykonos

What it is

The old town blends narrow cobbled lanes, white houses with brightly painted doors and bougainvillea with boutiques, galleries, tavernas and a lively nightlife. Little Venice with its houses over the water and the nearby windmills are among the finest sunset spots and form the heart of the island's queer nightlife.

History

Chora grew as a port and trading town of the Cyclades, with its characteristic maze of whitewashed lanes that originally also served as protection against pirates. In the 20th century Mykonos became an international destination and, early on, one of the most queer-friendly in Europe.
