Address: Round Hill, Brighton
What it is
Today the twisting lanes are lined with jewellers, antique dealers, boutiques, cafés and pubs. The quarter invites aimless wandering and is one of the most charming corners of the city.
History
This warren of alleys dates back to the late 16th century, when Brighton was still the fishing town of Brighthelmstone. The tightly packed housing of a growing population created the maze of narrow passages known locally as twittens.
