Yumbo Centrum (Playa del Inglés)

The Yumbo area forms the heart of the Playa del Inglés resort around the shopping centre of the same name, between Avenida de Tirajana and Avenida de España.

The neighbourhood revolves around the Yumbo centre and its surroundings of hotels, apartments, shops and restaurants that feel like an ordinary holiday district by day. At night the area turns into the pulsing heart of the island's queer nightlife, with bars, clubs and drag shows.

With the opening of the Yumbo Centrum in 1982, the surrounding district of Playa del Inglés became the focal point of tourist and later gay life in the south of Gran Canaria. Since Maspalomas Gay Pride was founded in 2001 it has been an international draw for the LGBTQ community.
