What it is
Along Via Lecco and the surrounding streets run gay bars, restaurants and meeting points, from the historic Bar Mono to LeccoMilano; during Milano Pride the district becomes the throbbing centre of the celebrations. With its Liberty-style architecture, international food and relaxed feel, it is the city's confident queer living room.
History
Porta Venezia has been the heart of Milan's LGBT community since the 1980s, when the first gay-friendly venues opened here. In 2019 the Porta Venezia metro station was permanently decorated in rainbow colours, becoming Italy's first transport stop officially dedicated to the LGBT community.
