What it is
Today Valencia's trendiest neighbourhood, with galleries, design shops, brunch cafés and a lively market from the 1950s. It also concentrates much of the city's gay-friendly bars and clubs; in the evening it is the centre of the nightlife and the queer scene.
History
The name goes back to a Moorish pleasure garden (al-Russafa) from the 9th century. Long a separate, working-class neighbourhood, Ruzafa has undergone a deep transformation in recent decades into a creative, multicultural hotspot.
