History
The Baroque palace ensemble was built in the early 18th century by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy. The Upper Belvedere has served as a museum since 1903 and today houses the Austrian Gallery. It is among the oldest public museums in the world.
