Older LGBTIQ People: Visibility in Later Life

The generation that fought for queer rights in the 1970s and 80s is now reaching retirement age. With them, a long-overlooked topic moves into focus: growing older as a queer person.

Many fear having to hide their identity again in care facilities. Organisations are therefore advocating for sensitised care and queer-friendly housing.

First pilot projects with shared housing for older LGBTIQ people have begun. Demand far exceeds supply.

Experts stress that this is not only about care, but about community, memory and recognition of a whole life's contribution.
