What is at stake Since 1 July 2024, compulsory health insurance has covered the cost of HIV PrEP under certain conditions. That arrangement is time-limited. According to a gay.ch article of 18 October 2026, which draws on an NZZ report, it is open what applies from 2027.

Who decides The Federal Department of Home Affairs (EDI) must decide by the end of 2026 whether coverage continues from January 2027 and under which conditions. The federal commission for general benefits and basic questions (ELGK) has the programme's report in front of it.

What the organisations are asking for Aids-Hilfe Schweiz and Pink Cross want coverage to continue beyond the pilot phase. Florian Vock of Aids-Hilfe puts the cost at CHF 50 to 80 a month and argues PrEP should not count against the deductible. He also points out that new HIV diagnoses have stalled at roughly 300 to 400 a year, well above where the 2030 goal would need them.
