HAZ — Queer Zürich combines LGBTQIA+ advocacy with community groups, gatherings and support in Zurich. People can contact HAZ with questions about queer topics free of charge and in confidence.[3][2][4]

Overview

HAZ works for LGBTQIA+ rights and visibility in Zurich. Its activities include advice and support, events, places to meet and political engagement. Membership fees help fund these activities and the operation of the HAZ library.[3]

HAZ welcomes questions from lesbian, gay, bi, asexual, aromantic, trans, non-binary and intersex people. Contact for these questions is free and confidential.[4]

Activities

The programme lists the Trans-Treff, Beyond the Binary for non-binary people, a games group and the Bi, Aspec and Poly groups, among other activities. Individual listings explain participation and any registration arrangements.[2]

The Bi-Gruppe is for people attracted to more than one gender. Discussions are lightly moderated and take participants' concerns as their starting point. The meeting begins on the last Wednesday of the month at 7 pm at Kulturbar GLEIS, at a reserved table marked with a small rainbow flag. At 7.30 pm, the group moves to the neighbouring Regenbogenhaus in Zollhaus B. Email registration is requested for planning; a first name is sufficient.[7]

The Poly / Nonogamy* group gives adults space to discuss non-monogamous relationships, ask questions, share experiences or listen. People of all genders and sexual orientations are welcome, whether they have one relationship, several or none. Meetings take place on the last Tuesday of the month at the Regenbogenhaus, with no advance booking required.[5]

The Aspec group welcomes people aged 18 and over on the aromantic and/or asexual spectrum, including those questioning whether either spectrum describes them. Discussion topics include orientation, coming out and wanting children. Its listed meeting day is also the last Tuesday of the month at the Regenbogenhaus.[8]

Participation

HAZ membership is not required to take part in its activities. These are free except for the Regenbogenznacht, which is charged at cost. Registration information appears in the individual activity listings, where the conditions for the chosen meeting can be checked.[2]

Membership applications use the form on the membership page. Standard membership costs CHF 140 a year, with a CHF 70 rate for people in education or training, or retirement. Members receive information about HAZ's work and can take part in decisions at the general meeting. One-off or occasional donations are also possible without joining.[3]

Contact

The office is at the Regenbogenhaus, Zollstrasse 117, 8005 Zurich, where most HAZ events also take place. The telephone number is +41 44 442 34 05.[4]

HAZ lists staffed office hours as Monday and Wednesday, 1–4 pm, and Thursday, 10 am–1 pm. Telephone availability is listed separately: Monday, 1–4 pm, and Wednesday and Thursday, 10 am–1 pm. The published Wednesday hours therefore differ for the office and telephone.[4]
