Coco Beach
in Nice, France
A rocky cove east of the port, long popular with gay and nude sunbathers; no sand and no services, so bring a mat and your own food and drink.
Where it is
Coco Beach is the easternmost beach in Nice, lying beyond the port (Port Lympia), below the residential quarter in the east of the city.
Address: Avenue Jean Lorrain, 06300 Nice
What it is
Unlike the city's pebble and sand beaches, Coco Beach is made of large rocks with laid-out paths and ladders by which you climb into the clear, deep water as if into a pool, ideal for snorkelling. The mood is quiet and local, with a few sea-view restaurants; the spot is supervised by lifeguards in summer.
History
This small rocky cove has long been a favourite chiefly of residents of east Nice and was never touched by the grand hotel scene of the Promenade. It has kept its original, natural character as a quiet bathing spot.
