Where it is

The museum sits on Place Yves-Klein, at the northern edge of the Old Town near Boulevard Risso and the Promenade du Paillon.

What it is

The collection holds over 1,300 works by some 300 artists, including Yves Klein, Niki de Saint Phalle, Arman and Andy Warhol, and the rooftop terrace offers a fine view over the city. Note: the museum has been closed for renovation since early 2024 and is staging programmes off-site in the meantime.

History

MAMAC opened in 1990 in a striking building of four marble-clad towers linked by walkways. It is devoted above all to European and American avant-garde art from the 1950s onward, with a focus on the School of Nice and Nouveau Réalisme.
