Hotels, beach and Riviera atmosphere.
Where it is
The district lies between the Promenade des Anglais, Boulevard Victor Hugo and the pedestrian zone, roughly between Boulevard Gambetta and Avenue Jean-Médecin.
Address: 59 Promenade des Anglais, 06000 Nice
What it is
The Carré d'Or is Nice's elegant, most expensive district: Haussmann façades with wrought-iron balconies, tree-lined avenues and luxury boutiques. Set right by the Promenade, it combines beach proximity with Belle Époque sophistication and forms part of the city's UNESCO World Heritage area.
History
The Carré d'Or emerged and flourished during the Belle Époque, when European nobility and high society flocked to the Riviera. From that era date the grand buildings of the Promenade, including the Villa Masséna, an architectural gem that today houses a museum of art and history.
