The best-known street in Torremolinos' old town, fully pedestrianised, in the historic centre.

Address: Calle San Miguel, Torremolinos

What it is

The fully traffic-free shopping street is busy at all hours and lined with shops of every kind, from jewellers and fashion boutiques to souvenir stores and delicatessens. It is the natural promenade for getting to know the centre and walking on to Plaza Costa del Sol or down to the beach.

History

The street runs through the oldest part of the town; at its end is the square with the Iglesia de San Miguel, built in the early 18th century in Andalusian neoclassical style. Above the steps stands the Torre de los Molinos, a Moorish watchtower from which the town takes its name. In the 1960s and 1970s the surrounding lanes were crowded with bars, hippies, artists and film stars.
