Beach
Playa de Playamar
in Torremolinos, Spain
The 'original' gay beach (the Poseidon stretch), a little further east; wide sand and a calmer feel than the Bajondillo core.
Where it is
A stretch of beach east of the Torremolinos centre, adjoining El Bajondillo, in the Playamar district.
What it is
Playamar offers a long, quieter sandy beach with a promenade and beach bars and has a distinctly gay-friendly character. Together with the nearby Poseidón and the beach clubs at Bajondillo, it forms the core of beach life for queer visitors.
History
Playamar grew with the tourism boom as a residential and hotel zone along the Torremolinos seafront. The beach is the traditional home of the "gay beach" around the Poseidón bar, a long-established meeting point for the queer community.
