Playa del Bajondillo / La Carihuela

in Torremolinos, Spain

Beaches within walking distance of the centre.

Where it is

The continuous coastal quarter of Torremolinos along the promenade, from the central El Bajondillo beach to the old fishing district of La Carihuela in the west.

Address: Torremolinos

What it is

A continuous seafront promenade links the two areas, lining sandy beaches, beach bars and fish restaurants. It is the liveliest zone for beach days, seaside walks and dining by the shore, and also takes in the gay-friendly stretches of El Bajondillo.

History

This coastal strip is the historic origin of Torremolinos: an old fishing village that from the late 1950s became one of the first resorts on the Costa del Sol. La Carihuela preserves its fishing roots and traditional cuisine, while El Bajondillo lies on the central Tajo slope below the historic centre.
