Where it is

In the Upper Lobau in the 22nd district of Donaustadt, a still body of water amid the floodplain forest of the Donau-Auen National Park.

Address: Katastralgemeinde Aspern, Vienna

What it is

The Dechantlacke is one of Vienna's quietest and most idyllic natural bathing spots, with winding lawns and a private atmosphere in the floodplain forest. Nudists and clothed bathers coexist easily; part of it is a popular meeting point for the gay scene. The remote location is only reachable by public transport with a walk on foot.

History

The Lobau was discovered by the naturist movement as early as the 1920s, and nude bathers have been a natural sight at the Dechantlacke ever since. The spot is not officially designated as a nudist area, yet naturists have formed the majority here for decades.
