The 6th district of Mariahilf lies between the Mariahilfer Strasse to the north and the Wien river with the Naschmarkt to the south, south-west of the inner city.

What it is
The quarter is compact and easy to explore on foot, with boutiques, cafés, bars and a lively food scene around the Naschmarkt. It is regarded as Vienna's gay district, with a high density of queer venues, clubs and meeting points.
History
Mariahilf grew out of historic suburbs and is today Vienna's densely built lifestyle district. Around the Naschmarkt and along its side streets, the centre of queer Vienna established itself over the decades.
