Krumme Lanke
in Berlin, Germany
Clear forest lake on the edge of the Grunewald in Zehlendorf with sandy beaches; nudism allowed everywhere.
Where it is
Krumme Lanke is a long, narrow bathing lake on the edge of the Grunewald forest in the Zehlendorf quarter of the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district.
Address: Rauweilersteig, 14163 Berlin
What it is
Numerous small bathing coves and two larger sandy beaches on the north-eastern shore invite swimming in the clear water. An FKK meadow and some of the coves are summer meeting points for the queer community, and the wooded setting makes the lake quieter than the better-known city lakes.
History
This slender, winding lake is part of the glacial Grunewald chain of lakes and owes its name to its crooked shape. Easily reached via the U-Bahn station of the same name, it has long been a favourite local recreation spot for Berliners.
