Schlachtensee

in Berlin, Germany

Popular swimming lake in the Grunewald chain in Zehlendorf, also a favourite with the queer community.

Where it is

Schlachtensee lies in south-west Berlin in the Zehlendorf quarter, right next to Krumme Lanke and only about a hundred metres from the S-Bahn station of the same name.

Address: Schlachtensee, Berlin

What it is

A shoreline path circles the entire lake, passing bathing spots, meadows and the beer garden at the Fischerhütte. The water is considered especially clean; the lake is family-friendly and lively, while also popular with the queer community as a summer bathing spot.

History

Stretching more than two kilometres, the lake belongs, like the neighbouring Krumme Lanke, to the Grunewald chain of lakes and was formed by glacial meltwater. Thanks to its direct S-Bahn connection it is one of the most easily reached bathing lakes in Berlin and a long-standing day-trip favourite.
