Beach
Höhenfelder See (Köln-Dellbrück)
in Cologne, Germany
Popular bathing lake in the east of the city with a long nudist tradition; a green, relaxed alternative for summer days away from the crowds.
Where it is
The Höhenfelder See lies on the right bank of the Rhine in north-east Cologne, in a wooded area near Dellbrück, close to Höhenhaus and Dünnwald.
Address: Dellbrück, Cologne
What it is
The atmosphere is very natural and calm, without infrastructure and with clear water. Naturism (FKK) is practised mainly at the small lake, with a sandy beach on the north shore; at the large lake a nudist meeting point has formed on the north-east beach. Important: because of steep depth changes and temperature differences, an official swimming ban applies at the lake.
History
This roughly 20-hectare quarry lake was formed from a former gravel pit. The area was renaturalised and is now part of a nature reserve made up of a large and a small lake. It mainly serves the surrounding districts as a quiet local recreation area.
