in Barcelona, Spain

Gaudí's unfinished basilica, the city's icon and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Book tickets ahead.

Where it is

The basilica stands in the Eixample district, on Carrer de Mallorca, northeast of the city centre.

Address: 401 Carrer de Mallorca, 08013 Barcelona

What it is

This UNESCO World Heritage site is Gaudí's masterpiece: organic forms, nature-inspired columns and an interior bathed in light from coloured stained glass. Timed-entry tickets must be bought online in advance, and a climb up the towers offers sweeping views over the city.

History

Antoni Gaudí took over the project in 1883 and worked on it until his death in 1926; construction still continues today. The central Tower of Jesus Christ reached structural completion in 2026 at 172.5 metres, making the Sagrada Família the tallest church in the world.
