What it is
Today La Barceloneta is known for its seafood restaurants, beach bars and the lively bustle of the promenade. The broad city beach and the Passeig Marítim invite swimming, cycling and strolling along the Mediterranean.
History
La Barceloneta was laid out in the mid-18th century as a planned fishing and harbour district with its characteristic narrow blocks. For the 1992 Olympics the city reopened itself to the sea, and the beaches once hidden behind the industrial port were redesigned.
