What it is
Montjuïc holds the MNAC national museum, the Joan Miró Foundation, the Magic Fountain, the Olympic stadium and extensive parkland. A cable car climbs to the castle, from where there are sweeping views over the city and the sea.
History
The hill has long held strategic importance and is crowned by a castle dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It was extensively redeveloped for the 1929 International Exhibition and the 1992 Summer Olympics, gaining sports venues, museums and gardens.
