What it is
Djurgården packs together some of the city's best attractions: the Vasa Museum, Skansen, the Gröna Lund amusement park and the ABBA Museum, plus woods, meadows and shoreline paths. Drawing over ten million visitors a year, it is ideal for a full day combining culture and nature.
History
The Swedish monarch has held the island since the 15th century, long using it as a royal game park, hence the name 'animal park'. From the late 18th century it became a popular recreation ground and today forms part of the National City Park founded in 1995.
