Point of interest

Fotografiska

in Stockholm, Sweden

A leading contemporary photography museum in a converted Södermalm customs house, known for bold exhibitions and a top-floor café with sweeping harbour views.

Where it is

Fotografiska occupies the former customs house at Stadsgårdshamnen 22, on the Stadsgården waterfront of Södermalm.

Address: 22 Stadsgårdshamnen, 116 45 Stockholm

What it is

Rather than a permanent collection, Fotografiska runs changing exhibitions by leading and emerging photographers, plus a restaurant, bar and shop. It stays open late, and its top-floor café offers a sweeping view over the harbour and the old town.

History

This contemporary photography museum opened in 2010 in an Art Nouveau customs building dating from 1906. The original Stockholm venue has since grown into an international network with houses in Tallinn, Berlin and Shanghai, among others.
