Beach
Kärsön
in Stockholm, Sweden
A spontaneous naturist beach on rocks at the north end of Kärsön island in Lake Mälaren, near Drottningholm Palace, that becomes the area's best-known gay-leaning spot in summer; reach it via bus from Brommaplan to Brostugan, then a short walk north — there are no facilities.
Where it is
Kärsön is an island in Lake Mälaren in Ekerö municipality, west of Stockholm and close to Drottningholm Palace.
Address: Ekerö kommun
What it is
The sandy Mälaren shores are good for swimming and sunbathing, and the roughly 5.8 km Kärsöleden trail circles the island with views of Drottningholm. The naturist stretch is known as a relaxed, open-minded summer gathering spot, though it is not an officially designated nudist beach.
History
The island lies within the Lovö nature reserve and is easily reached via the Drottningholm bridge. While the official Kärsögården beach is a family-friendly site, an informal naturist and clothing-optional spot has also grown up on the island over the years.
