What it is
In a small space, bar follows bar and venue follows venue, from early aperitivo spots to late clubs that drive the nightlife. By day it is a narrow old-town lane; on summer evenings it is the buzzing centre of the queer scene, where same-sex affection is entirely normalised.
History
Because of its dense line of bars, Carrer 1er de Maig became popularly known as Carrer del Pecat, the "Street of Sin". For decades it has been the heart of the LGBTQ nightlife that earned Sitges its reputation as a gay capital on the Mediterranean.
