Mercat Vell

The building stands in the centre of the Sitges old town, near the Plaça del Cap de la Vila.

The single-nave brick building with exposed ironwork now serves as a cultural and exhibition space and houses Casa Bacardí. It is a worthwhile stop for anyone interested in architecture while exploring the old town.

The old market hall was built in 1890 by municipal architect Gaietà Buïgas i Monravà and is a notable example of Modernisme. With its wrought-iron canopy it was the first building in Sitges to use the metal as a construction feature; it served as a market until the 1990s.
