Berlin CSD attack: suspect shot dead by police — Islamist terrorist attack confirmed
UPDATE — 26 July 2026: On Sunday afternoon at around 18:00, Berlin police special forces shot and killed the suspect in an allotment garden in the Spandau district, after he charged at officers with a stabbing weapon.
Berlin authorities identified the man as Abdul Ballout, 21, who was known to police and had a prior conviction for preparing a serious act of subversive violence — he had attempted to join the Islamic State. The Berlin public prosecutor's office officially classified the attack as an Islamist-motivated terrorist act.
Saturday evening's attack saw the perpetrator drive a vehicle into the crowd near the Tiergarten, where the CSD street festival was taking place. One woman died of her injuries. Updated figures put the total number of injured at around 29, several of them seriously.
The attack forms part of a growing pattern of Islamist-motivated assaults on queer events across Europe. German LGBTIQ+ organisations called for enhanced security at Pride events while making clear the community would not be intimidated.
